The last few months have been rather hectic, scarily so.  I’ve graduated with my degree in print journalism and recently began my new job as a Student Admissions Executive at a college in Oxford. Blogging has unfortunately been neglected this summer.

During my break last week, I went on my ritual trip to Boots to get my lunch (I am a firm believer that the Boots meal deals are the best in this country). As it often happens, the clearance section caught my eye. Rummaging about, I found a host of hair care products, in particular, this trio from Umberto Giannini.

I have recently promised myself to look after my hair a little better and treated myself to a cut at the Popham salon on the North Parade in Summertown. My lovely friend Anna has recently began working there and her positive comment ensured I could not resist getting my hair restyled. It desperately needed it.

I must admit, I was rather gleeful (and a teeny bit smug) about my hairdresser Shaun’s comments on the condition of my hair, which I incidentally, lost a ton of. I am terrible for hair maintenance, and I am the type of girl to crawl out of bed and never make much of an effort when it comes to styling.

Shaun completely restyled my hair, ensuring I got my choppy (easy maintenance) layers all over. Having made this promise to spend more time and effort when it comes to my hair, the Umberto Giannini trio was a great place to start. The travel sized set included the Volume Shampoo, Volume Conditioner and Volume Blow Dry Spray for ‘Big Hair’.

The ‘Incredible Body’ collection is suitable for all hair types in need of a volume boost in a bid to gain ‘Hollywood’ hair. I loved the subtle clean fragrance and lovely creamy texture of the shampoo and conditioner, both leaving my hair soft and manageable. Big and messy hair brings me joy.

Leaving my hair to dry naturally overnight, I used the spray the following morning (although advised to apply to damp hair before blow drying, rules are made to be broken). Applying to my roots, I used my paddle hairbrush to subtly build volume, finding it to really bring out my layers.

What attracted me to this set (other than the bargain price) was the beautifully regal coloured packaging in purple and gold, offering a little princess treatment for my hair. The ‘Incredible Body’ collection has since been repackaged to look even lovelier (with the addition of gold caps) and the collection is available at Boots.

Have you used any new hair care products lately? What are your favourites?

Oh, don’t you just love the fluorescent pink packaging of Lee Stafford products?

I just knew the  Lee Stafford As Ruff As You Like It Clay (AS Ruff AS YoU Like IT) clay would be just perfect for guys hair. I have never had a need to use clay products and tend to go for mouse or hairspray to add a bit of volume to my hair.

This clay works to give the beloved messy hair look and can be used upon dry or wet hair depending on how extreme you want your styling. It has a nice fragrance, texture of a putty, and is suprisingly the colour of actual clay!

What I really like about this product is the inclusion of  both palm oil and Shea butter to treat the hair. It makes the clay easier to work with, giving you that perfect look with a wonderful matte finish.

After washing and towel drying , I applied a small amount of the clay and styled as usual. My decision was unanimous, the clay was really easy and nice to work with – and doesn’t leave your hair greasy like other clay products.

Giving a messy look without leaving lots of residue in their hair. Lee Stafford promises that the clay will give the hair “texture, definition and control” and I indeed found that it did. It provides a rough and ready, just-got-out-of-bed style, and an impressive hold, what more could you want?

Have you tried any Lee Stafford products? What hair products do you use daily?

With a name like the above you would expect these products to be rather fabulous. I tried out both the Operation: Glam Lockstar Shampoo and Conditioner*.
My hair is a tangled mess and finding products to tame it is a miracle in itself. I headed to my shower on a chilly night, ready to start my mission against my mane, the Operation: Glam Lockstar duo in hand. The shampoo was a lovely pearl white shade, both thick in consistency and texture, almost like a hair mask. It left my hair feeling wonderfully sleek as I rinsed it out. The conditioner, also white, proved to surprisingly be even thicker! However, I did not feel that same immediate smoothness on my hair as I lathered it in.
Once rinsed,  it felt fabulous. Both products left my hair feeling amazingly soft and tangle free. It felt better before I even began the tedious process of blow drying, something I desperately try to avoid as heat damage does not aid tangles! I loved the fruity fragrance of the shampoo, while the hard-working conditioner boasted a more bland yet delightfully fresh scent.
I previously done a hairspray review for Tomb Bomb Co (when they were Lulu’s Place) so you can check it out here on how to finish that wonderfully clean and prepped hair!
What do you think of these two? Do you do anything special in your hair care routine?

So I am bit late with my September JolieBox* review but I wanted to get a really well informed look at the products. This months edition came in the most beautiful multi-coloured box, a mix of pink, yellow and green stealing a spot upon my dresser immediately. Within the box were a selection of items, protected by a thick black drawstring bag.
Peeking in, I was surprised at the selection, not overly large but with some lovely products. The September JolieBox contained:
Balmi lip balm (10.5g)I was ecstatic when I realised JolieBox had contained a Balmi lip balm. I have been desperate to try it for a while now and I was even lucky enough to receive it in my most desired flavour of mint! I adore the mint green packaging and delicious cooling tingle the balm gives. It also contains SPF 15 for added protection against the elements. It is ergonomically sound, designed as a round plastic sphere which screws and clicks into place. The balm is also sphere, providing a quick and effortless slick of gloss when you need it most. The container is handily connected to a keyring loop, meaning you can keep your Balmi with you wherever you go, be it on your phone, purse or key ring! Balmi is also available in coconut, strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry flavours.
2 Twistband Hair TiesI adored these handy little hair ties. I received them in khaki green and a golden yellow and found them to work fabulously! Not only are they lightweight, but also incredibly durable, holding up my mane of hair with ease. Twistbands are made of an elastic trim and designed to tie the hair without leaving bumps in your hair do, and they do just that! They are delicate enough to not feel tight but strong enough to hold the hair throughout the day. I think I have just found my hair tie solution, no more painful ponytails!
Redken Align 12 protective straightening lotionI am a big fan of Redken and frankly anything that tames my hair. This “straighten and shield” lotion for medium hair promises to protect and smooth unruly hair. Applying it to my damp hair as instructed, I carefully blow-dryed my hair in as straight a manner as I could. The result was beautiful shiny hair without the usual overload of flyaways and frizz. A very convenient hair time treat and you only need the tiniest amount of product!
Dr Bragi Bio Marine ExfoliantAlthough this product smelt like the scents you tend to avoid at the seaside, I found it to be the best of the JolieBox (the beloved Balmi is a close second). The results from this facial exfoliator astounded me. Using it predominantly on my T zone as advised, I used the remainder of the sample across my face. The texture was gritty and as I massaged it in I was left with a chalky white colour. On rinsing the product I found my skin to be the softest it has been in a long time. I put this down to the ingredients which include fossilised diatom algae (eek!), diatomaceous earth and witch hazel, known for its skin caring properties. My advice? Get your hands on some now!
I Love… Coconut Face Mask (15ml)While I adored the Dr Bragi Bio Marine Exfoliant, I was not overly impressed with the I Love… Face Mask. What put me off instantly was the texture, a stringy thick gel clinging to my unsuspecting face. If the coconut smell was not so delicious I would have probably washed it off there and then! Although advised to use the entire sachet, I found that half was more suitable (otherwise I would have been drowning in goo!). I found the mask rather awkward to apply with its stringy nature and ended up smothering my eyebrows although advised not to. There was no time limit specified on the pack, but within five minutes my face was feeling stiff. I began to peel the mask off with relative ease, using a warm flannel to remove the residue from my eyebrows. It left my skin feeling somewhat abused, clean and smelling wonderful. Although not a fan myself, anyone not terrified of face masks should definitely give I Love… Face Masks a go, they are suitable for every skin type and smell delicious!
All these products were accompanied by the glossy JolieBox magazine and a £25 off your first treatment at Skin3, a company otherwise unknown to me before the box. JolieBox is a subscription based beauty box offering a selection of branded products monthly for only £10 (plus £2.95 P&P) .
Did you get the September edition of the JolieBox? What are your thoughts of the products within?

Macadamia Hair is a unique hair care company. Using the oil from the Macadamia nut and the rare Argan seeds of Morocco they have created a collection from nature that benefits not only the hair, but the mind also. These rich resources have been used throughout time for their goodness and healing nature, making Macadamia ‘the secret to healthy hair’.

The Macadamia Hair Luxury Travel Kit is brilliant for those on the go, containing everything you need to replenish and satisfy your mane. Not only does it contain five luxurious products, but also a wide-toothed and oil infused comb that works with your hairs natural oils. The kit includes:
Macadamia Rejuvenating Shampoo (60ml)
The shampoo was the best item in the collection in my opinion. I only used a small amount, about half a teaspoon(!) and it lathered into a lovely foam straight away. It left my hair with a silky coat of protection and feeling conditioned instantly. Having somewhat damaged hair, this really impressed me, it was almost like a moisturiser for the hair.
Macadamia Moisturizing Rinse (60ml)
This moisturing conditioner was not as impressive as the shampoo. It did not give the same immediate silky feel. As advised, I left it on for a minute and quickly began to see the difference. After drying my hair I soon discovered how soft it had become! Disappointingly though, the small 60ml bottle size led to a great amount of difficulty in getting the product out! It did not change the quality of the product whatsoever and this conditioner is a fabulous counterpart to the Macadamia Rejuvenating Shampoo.
Macadamia Deep Repair Masque (30ml)
The Macadamia Deep Repair Masque was mousse-like in texture. I applied it for seven minutes as instructed and it began to create what felt like a wax coating upon my hair. Afterwards, my hair felt deeply nourished, and the treatment even surpassed that of the conditioner! I put it down to the additional ingredient such as algae extracts, tea tree oil, chamomile oil and aloe.
Macadamia Nourishing Leave-In Cream (60ml)
This leave-in cream really helped to control fly-a-way hair and kept it looking neat!
Macadamia Healing Oil (30ml)
The Macadamia Healing Oil really sealed the deal, leaving my hair soft and smooth with a real salon quality.
Macadamia Oil Infused Comb
This comb is truly brilliant. Infused with oil and sealed with resin, it glided through my newly cleansed hair with ease. This really impressed me as I have dyed, and therefore tangle prone hair!  It is also recommended that you use it often to treat the hair, which is just fabulous in my opinion!
The Macadamia Hair Luxury Travel Kit is certainly impressive. It made my hair radiant, improving the colour and is amazing for those on the go and in need of smaller products. The ingredients help to protect against the elements, creating stronger hair without the need of harmful or overly perfumed ingredients.
