L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Pure Gold Lipstick Review

Well, after investing and falling head-over-heels in love with the L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold, the only next logical step was to make the Pure Gold shade my own (I still want them all).

Bought alongside the Le Lip Liner Magique (a multi-use transparent lip liner), I am delighted with this oh-so-unique shade. I can see why the L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Pure Gold is the headlining item in the Color Riche range and why this collection is so popular.

Like the L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold, I noticed the Pure Gold shade lipstick lasted after application. All the lipsticks in the Color Riche collection are moisturising due to a combination of Omega-3 oils and Vitamin E.

In the collection, there are “5 iconic shades to suit every skin tone; Nude Gold, Rose Gold, Rouge Gold, Plum Gold, as well as a statement Pure Gold shade.”

So, how do I feel about the L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Pure Gold lipstick?

What I adore about the Pure Gold shade is that it is beautifully pigmented, a truly mesmerising metallic finished with gold shimmer. You can layer to create a more dramatic effect if desired and it is bold without being brash.

This shade can be used alone or applied over others, team with your favourite statement lipstick for added wow factor. Depending on how daring you are, the Pure Gold shade can be used throughout the day, it doesn’t just have to be a late night love affair.

I found myself only reapplying once throughout the evening and remained subtly sparkly throughout my delicious anniversary dinner (officially over a year, yay!). The texture of this lipstick is wonderful, with a smooth application that lasts. Everyone needs this unique stand-out lipstick in their collection, without a doubt.

Have you tried the L’Oreal Gold Obsession lipsticks? Which shade would you choose?

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter review

When it comes to highlighting, contouring and the like, I am a self-confessed novice. However, I am improving and one day I may just get there!

While looking to improve these skills and thus intensely browsing for an affordable (and pretty pink) highlighter, I came across this Makeup Revolution beauty.

The Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Moon Glow Lights is a strobe highlighter and it is perfect for illuminating the face alongside, or instead of contouring.

Now, do be warned that due to the Vivid Baked Highlighter being a strobe highlighter, this means that it offers a subtle shimmer. If you are looking for an intense and defined look, you may want to look elsewhere.

So, how do I feel about the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter?

Saying this, you can indeed build on and continuously layer this product if you so choose. Makeup Revolution says, “capture the light with our strobe highlighters… the light powder gives a natural illumination to the skin by diffusing the light. Can be applied both wet or dry for different intensities and very buildable.”

The beauty of this highlighter is that it can literally be used all over your face, and it is perfect for strobing. For a defined glow I tend to use it under my brow bone, diagonally across my cheekbones and atop my cupid’s bow.

My only vice with this product falls down to the packaging, already the print appears to be wearing away (probably due to my constant use no doubt). Other than that, this is my new beauty staple for whenever I need a subtle go-to glow.

You can also read my review of the Makeup Revolution Blush Queen palette here.

What do you think of the Vivid Baked Highlighter? Which highlighter do you use?

L'Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold

L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold Lipstick Review

With Autumn well and truly here, it is that time of the year where we get super snug in cosy jumpers, don our jeans and dust down our leather boots. Oh, and invest heavily in nude and red lipsticks. Obviously.

Thanks to a raging storm on social media (Twitter and Instagram – I am looking at you), I caved and invested in the L’oreal Gold Obsession Lipstick in Nude Gold (I wanted more).

So, after a little daytime trip to Boots with mother dearest and a birthday gift card in tow, this little beauty was mine. Now, I am not a super fan of L’Oreal and I must admit that I only have a few of their lipsticks in my collection (Hello, MAC, NYX and YSL). However, this is something a little bit special.

L'Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold - Stephanie Mulholland

So, how do I feel about the L’Oreal Gold Obsession in Nude Gold lipstick?

I am slightly in love with this lipstick for numerous reasons. Firstly, the variety of rich shades makes for a fabulous base set in my opinion, here’s to hoping they expand the collection with its new found popularity. So far we have “5 iconic shades to suit every skin tone; Nude Gold, Rose Gold, Rouge Gold, Plum Gold, as well as a statement Pure Gold shade”. The Pure Gold really does look amazing, will I be so daring on my next shopping spree?

While swatching away, I found the L’Oreal Gold Obsession lipsticks to be beautifully pigmented, each infused with a non-offensive gold shimmer overlay (don’t worry about looking like a 5-year-old with her first glitter ‘lipstick’) that leaves you with a metallic glossy finish.

I soon realised the once applied, the L’Oreal Gold Obsession lipsticks last for quite some time and are so far proving to be rather moisturising (thanks to the combination of Omega-3 oils and Vitamin E, hallelujah!). I found myself only reapplying once throughout my busy day and overall I remained wonderfully shimmery. The texture of the lipstick is a marvel too, gliding on wonderfully. I think I may have just found my new statement nude lipstick, who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle?

Have you tried the L’Oreal Gold Obsession lipsticks? Which shade would you choose?

NYX lip cream in Copenhagen review

I have found a new love in the form of lip creams. NYX, where have you been all my life? The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream collection features a wonderful variety of 19 shades, each quirkily named after a capital city (I think that is pretty cool myself). My first adventure with the collection? Well, no other than the wonderful NYX Lip Cream Copenhagen.

Now, the soft matte lip cream is a tad confusing, it is not quite a lip gloss and not quite a lipstick. It is, in itself, a wonderful combination of velvet textured application, immensely pigmented and vivid colour, with a sensationally bold matte finish. At the end of the day, what is not to love?

Oh, and as for the colour of Copenhagen, it is to die for, almost like a burnt burgandy shade. Although it is very stand out – for all the right reasons may I add – it works in the daytime as well as the night, encouraging an array of complementary comments and questions. Yes, it really IS a fiver.

So, how do I feel about the NYX lip cream in Copenhagen?

However, this vivacious beauty product has a slight flaw when it comes to its lasting power, it isn’t amazing but it is in no way terrible. Considering the absolute steal when it comes to the price of the product, one can hardly complain. A few silky smooth applications throughout the day and this can be quickly overlooked.

Another wonder of this lip cream is that unlike many other similar products, it does not dry out your lips! How it can leave a pristine matte finish and hydrated lips is a tad baffling, it would seem that the lip cream gods and goddesses at NYX are certainly doing something right!

The NYX website is currently being revamped, but fear not, you can grab your own lip cream at SelfridgesBoots or ASOS.

Unfortunately, for now at least, this is as close to the city of Copenhagen as I am going to get. It would appear that my wanderlust will have to be satisfied with more NYX lip creams, but that is hardly a bad deal, is it?

Have you tried any of the NYX Lip Creams? Which shade is your favourite?

Urban Decay Vice4 Palette

Urban Decay Vice4 Palette review

I fell in love with the VICE4 Eye Shadow Palette by Urban Decay  the moment I saw it, referencing my desperate need for it in time for Christmas.

Well, my Christmas wishlist was well and truly satisfied, as thankfully, I am blessed with a wonderful boyfriend who (reluctantly he ensured to add) bought it for me and surprised me with it on Christmas day!

The limited edition VICE4 Palette is just beautiful, with “20 addictively gorgeous, never-before-seen shades of iconic eyeshadow.” I have said it before, and I will say it again, I love the mix of neutral and vivid tones, offering demure daytime to perfect-to-party looks in a flash.

It is truly a wonderfully colourful and vibrant palette. Unlike some other Urban Decay palettes, VICE4 handily comes with a huge mirror, double-ended shadow and crease brush and coordinating bag (even the casing and packaging makes my heart bleed, it is just so beautiful).

So, what did I think of the Urban Decay VICE4 palette?

I have to admit, the shimmery greens (Grasshopper and Arctic) and orange (aptly named Flame) shades are my favourite, used alongside the flattering matte shade Framed. Although, with the variety of colours, the possibilities for different looks is endless. Check out some of mine here.

This is my favourite Urban Decay eyeshadow palette to date, even more so than the Naked ones. The variety of pigmented matte and shimmer shades just does it for me and they all blend together and remain on the face so perfectly.  I just need to get my eye make up application  down to a T!

What do you think of the VICE4 palette? Which Urban Decay palette is your favourite?

By 22, most girls are well accustomed to vigorous nail care routines. I am a bit useless with all that, I guess some things never change.

I love having pretty nails, but mine are so horrendously weak that as soon as I get some length to them, they snap. It is not a good time in the slightest.

After seeing my friend Anna get her nails done, the envy crept in. I had enough of being frustrated with trying to maintain my nails and had to get them done professionally, so I booked an appointment the next day.

I went to Amy Nails, in the Oxford town centre, enticed more so by an offer for acrylic nails for a very reasonable twenty pounds. She confirmed this would be the price (it wasn’t) and began to clip away.

My manicurist was a bit of a witch if I am honest, she didn’t talk much, tutted at me far too often (I clumsily smudged my nails at one point, oops) and was very efficient but miserable. At least she got the job done I guess.

I opted for an OPI varnish, which I found to be very similar (almost identical) to my favourite nail varnish, Arabian of the Aquarium Collection by Barry M.

All dried and finished I have to admit I love my new lengthy nails, she brushed them down with some oil and asked for twenty six pounds. I obliged and left, never again.

I have to admit, these acrylics have taken a little bit of getting used to but here I am typing away now. Just don’t ask me to open a jar…

Have you ever had acrylic nails? What is your favourite nail varnish?
