STEAMCREAM Wendy edition

STEAMCREAM review - Wendy edition - The LDN Gal

A STEAMCREAM review

I have been intrigued by STEAMCREAM for a while now. It is a product handmade in small batches in the United Kingdom and Japan entirely out of fresh, natural and vegan  ingredients. A brand that has recently been causing a storm in the skin care world.

STEAMCREAM is made via a unique steam process. A shot of steam is used to force the ingredients to fuse together, creating a lightweight, effective and absorbent emulsion packed with essential oils. These oils penetrate the areas most in need of care and are suitable for every skin type.

So, what did I think of STEAMCREAM?

I chose the Wendy special edition tin, featuring makeup artist Wendy Rowe’s portrait and the advice to use STEAMCREAM as “a great pre-makeup base”. Taking this advice, I used the cream over the entirety of my face. The cream has a simple and fresh (what I believed to be lavender) smell. It left a light, almost matte, texture upon my skin. I found it took a while to sink in, but I was left with such wonderfully smooth skin that the wait was worth it!

The cream is made with an impressive and beautiful smelling selection of natural materials including, oatmeal, orange flower water, almond, jojoba oils and cocoa butter.

In essence, every tin of STEAMCREAM contains an identical product. The variety comes into play when selecting your tin design. They have a huge variety, suitable for all tastes, some limited edition by well-known designers! These robust tins are made from stainless steel and perfect for reusing, be it to hold more beauty products or as storage! I admire STEAMCREAM for this eco-friendly and conscious attitude, and their use of raw and sustainable materials. To top it all off they are 100% against animal testing!

Is STEAMCREAM worth the hype? Definitely! It can be used all over the body, is ethical and moisturises like a dream! Your body deserves the treat!

Have you tried STEAMCREAM? What do you think of the gorgeous variety of tins?

Fashion: White Leaf Company Bird Print Scarf

White Leaf Company Scarf

White Leaf Company review

I love bold prints and with Autumn well and truly here I needed something to keep myself warm without an overload of knitwear. This delicate Bird Print Scarf in Yellow by the White Leaf Company* was just perfect.

This scarf is very large (measuring 180 x110cm) making it perfect for wrapping it around your neck or looping it delicately as I did to keep you cosy. It has a beautiful chiffon feel and is 100% polyester. Not only is it warm, but the lightweight nature of the material leaves it feeling lovely on, not overly stuffy like most outerwear.
The print is wonderful and what I adore about the scarf. A light yellow contrasted against the bright colours of the swooping, resting and calling birds and delicate butterflies upon it, the combination is just brilliant!

What I love about White Leaf Company is the huge selection of snug and pretty accessories they offer, including a selection of jewellery, bags and scarves. This gorgeous scarf is only £13.95, offering the perfect practical and fashionable solution to all your A/W troubles! You’ll never have an excuse for dull accessories again!

Have you tried any White Leaf Companyaccessories? What is your favourite Autumn/Winter item?

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Tweezers and Brow & Lash Brush

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Tweezers

The Vintage Cosmetic Company review

The Vintage Cosmetic Company is centered around the production of 1950’s vintage inspired cosmetic accessories. Ridding woman’s attention of their household chores, their motto is ‘ditch the baking and focus on the glamour’. I did just that with The Vintage Cosmetic Company Tweezers* and The Vintage Cosmetic Company Brow & Lash Make-Up Brush*.

The Tweezers are just gorgeous, super girly with a detailed floral print. The reverse is a candy pink and features The Vintage Cosmetic Company’s italicised logo. What makes these tweezers different you say? Well they are made from high quality stainless steel and have an impressive sharp slanted tip to pluck at those stray hairs, leaving you with perfectly shaped brows every time!

So, what did I think of The Vintage Cosmetic Company tweezers and Brow Lash brush?

Having quite large and shapely brows, I was impressed to find that my eyebrows were looking groomed in a matter of minutes! The slanted tip really ease the usual sting associated with tweezers and I finished without the slightest bit of redness!

The Brow & Lash Make-up Brush features the same candy pink colour. The brow side of the brush is fitted with thick and sturdy bristles, grooming those wild brows into submission. The lash side is plastic, separating lashes to avoid clumping when applying your mascara and giving you a nice wide-eyed look.

I found the strong bristles of the brush to really work wonders for my eyebrows, really complimenting their new shape (thank you tweezers!) as I fanned out my eyelashes with a few slicks of mascara.

These products are a necessity for any beauty enthusiast, not only are they pretty, they also work to a professional standard, both long-lasting and sturdy. They are also very affordable at only £8 each for the Tweezers of Brow & Lash make-up brush! Definitely in the running against the cosmetic accessory giants.

Ladies it is about time you started treating your lashes and brows! Eyes are the windows to the soul, so lets frame them properly!

Have you tried any products from The Vintage Company? What is your favourite make-up accessory?

Urban Therapy Twisted Sista Shampoo and Conditioner

Twisted Sista shampoo and conditioner review

Twisted Sista review

Twisted Sista is a London brand with an aim to glorify your hair and bring out the best it can offer: ‘Celebrating curls, farewell to frizz… honor the poker straight’.

I was lucky enough to try out the de-frizz shampoo and conditioner. I found both products to be a lot thicker than conventional shampoo and conditioners that I have used before. I had to rinse my hair quite a few times to be totally sure the product was out.

Saying that, my hair felt full, less tangled and had a lovely watermelon scent to it, definitely a fresh and fruity first for me!  The bottle design has a somewhat younger teenage appeal, with bright lime green exterior alongside sleek and sophisticated illustrated women.

So, what do I think of Twisted Sista?

The shampoo made my hair feel great, I usually have to deal with a tangled mess before I start the chore of conditioning but this was not the case, and it had a lovely frothy effect as I lathered it up.

This range specifically targets those with curly and unruly hair, so it was fabulous for taming my frizz and left my hair feeling soft and clean. It is also perfect for summer time as it contains UV filters, protecting you from sun damage and leaving your hair hydrated and shiny.

The pearlescent white conditioner was ridiculously thick, almost like an intensive hair mask, deeply conditioning and rich. I paid particular attention to the ends of my hair and although I had to rinse like a madwoman, it left my hair soft and tangle free. I have been using it over the past week and my hair is shiny and noticeably nourished.

Overall, these are pleasant products to use and make the perfect pair, really complimenting one another. The shampoo gently cleanses as the conditioner hydrates and repairs damaged hair. The smell and design are sweet and cute but perhaps not as appealing to an older market.

However, don’t let the pretty design fool you, this combination is brilliant leaving you with a hint of that delicious fruity scent, sleek hair and the perfect wake up call!

Have you tried Twisted Sista products? What is your favourite hair care product?

Beauty: MyFace Cosmetics MyMix Foundation

MyMix Foundation in Fair01

MyFace Cosmetics MyMix Foundation in Fair01 review

I find foundation to be the most basic and important product in any beauty regime, it can really make or break a look.

First step is to find the right colour for you. This is something I often struggle with, it would genuinely shock you the amount of money I have wasted with my naivety when on the hunt for the perfect foundation. The next step is deciding the type of foundation you want, be it liquid, powder of mouse. I opt for liquid, finding it to working better on my normal/dry skin.
I decided to try out MyFace Cosmetics MyMix Foundation in Fair01*. MyFace Cosmetics work via a simple and effective system when it comes to their products, placing them into one of three categories: fair, medium and medium/dark. With this in mind, they use well-known celebrities to give you an understanding of what tiers (labeled from 1 to 3, the latter being the darkest) you fall into within the category. I found this extremely helpful, matching my skin tone (Fair01) to the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Emma Watson in seconds.
I found the contents to be quite fluid and this was rather frustrating. This in mind, I applied the foundation using my finger tips and my well-loved ‘dot’ method (I shall show this one day!) and the coverage was lovely. It felt like a second skin with its matt finish and clean smell. After a day of wear it was still firmly on, and my skin looked bright and felt wonderfully smooth. I was amazed that it had not dried it out and left my face feeling hydrated.

So, did MyFace Cosmetics MyMix Foundation in Fair01 offer the healthy glow they promised?

My answer is yes! This is the perfect foundation for normal/dry/combination skin tones (I find liquid foundations on oily skin tend to wear off quickly but it may work with a primer). However, the ‘colour-correcting formula’ can only go so far. I believe the product to sufficiently reduce redness but am doubtful as to whether it would work as an entire cover up on acne prone skin.

I also adored the colour match method, it is as flawless as the foundation and guarantees a perfect match every time! The packaging is also a bonus, the tube is sleek, making it easy to slip into the smallest of bags. With impressive coverage and delightful texture, there is no need to worry about top ups!
You will feel the fairest of them all! If you are as pale as me that is…

Food: Rococo Chocolate Bee Bars Review

Rococo Chocolates Bee Bars Review

Rococo Chocolates Bee Bars review

Rococo Chocolates are a luxury treat, offering delicious chocolates filled with natural goodness. They are a company that outright refuse the use of artificial products, sourcing the best ingredients and keeping their customers healthy and happy with their sweet treats.

I was lucky enough to sample the following from the Rococo Chocolates Bee Bars collection, distinguished by their bright pastel colours and bee pattern upon the chocolate mould:

40% Cocoa Organic Milk Chocolate Bee Bar
– The sweet classic. This slow melting treat is created using cocoa beans harvested from Rococo Chocolates ‘home farm’ in North Grenada. Extra cocoa butter is added to the 40% cocoa solid bar to create its creamy texture and rich flavour, sweetened further by a hint of caramel. This bar is simply delicious, defining Rococo Chocolates craftsmanship in its best and plainest form.

Rose Organic Milk Chocolate Bee Bar – This floral treat is perfumed and fragrant, bringing back memories of my grandmothers garden. Rose infused, this chocolate is the most delicious of the bunch! The distinct flavour is due to the key ingredient pure rose otto, a fragrant and flavoured oil created from steam distilling roses. Think the best turkish delight you could possibly try.

Sea Salt Organic Milk Chocolate Bee Bar – The Sea Salt Bee Bar was my favourite of the selection, a mix of savoury and sweet and done so to perfection. The peculiar bar is ingrained with delicate grains of sea salt, leaving  its taste and creating a dramatic contrast on the old taste buds.  Rococo’s founder, Chantal, was inspired ‘after walking along a beach eating an ice cream with the salt in the sea air catching on her lips’. Although wonderful, I would be wary of this salt infused bar, if you get greedy, you will be feeling a tad sea sick!

Cardamom Organic White Chocolate Bee Bar – This was the most unique bar for me. It is infused with cardamom, a luxury aromatic ground spice and a flavour that I have not experienced before. It is prominent within the bar, offering a bitty and flavoursome texture against the sweetness of the white chocolate.

These 20g bars are priced at £1.60 each and worth every penny for a delicious ethically-sourced treat.

Percy & Reed Va-Va Voom Volume Travel Pack

Percy & Reed 'Va-Va Voom Volume' Travel Pack

Percy & Reed Va-Va Voom Volume Travel Pack review

A relaxing bath after a long day is one of the nicest ways to spend your evening. Even better, is trying out your new Va-Va Voom Volume Travel Pack* by Percy & Reed.

Percy & Reed are masterminds in the world of hair care. Hairdressers themselves, they know exactly how to work your locks.  After opening up a salon in London the duo started working on their own range of hair care products. Va-Va-Voom Volume Travel Pack was born!

So, as one can expect, the ‘Volumising Shampoo’ and ‘Volumising Conditioner’ first. What strikes me instantly with Percy & Reed products is the incredible and individual smells of each item, utterly delicious and noticeable. The shampoo is scented with blackcurrant extract.

So, what did I think of the Percy & Reed Va-Va Voom Volume Travel Pack?

After this sleek and squeaky clean experience, I attempted to add some volume and shine with the remaining products. I half towel dried and half blow dried my hair and began to experiment. I started with the ‘Bodifying Cream’, working it from root to tip as instructed and immediately started seeing results and bounce!

Having quite thick hair, I often use a variety of additional products and this set is just perfect, containing literally everything you need. Following the oh so useful styling tips along the bottle, I used the ‘No Oil Oil’ (for fine hair unfortunately, but understandable as this is a volumising kit and us thick haired ladies are usually satisfied with the size of our manes) and ‘Volumising Mousse’ in unison: ‘Expect glossy, voluminous weightless movement and finish when you mix the Volumising Mousse with No Oil Oil for fine hair’.

I got what I was promised and was left with shiny, full and wonderful smelling hair! Percy & Reed also claim that the violet extract and consistently used pro-vitamin B5 in the ‘No Oil Oil’ repairs and protects damaged hair. As for the ‘Volumising Mousse’, it did not leave the nasty gunk usually associated with this kind of product. I finished this off with a pretty well holding spritz of the ‘Session Hold Hairspray’.

Overall, I think this little kit is fabulous, containing everything you need for beautiful and glamorous hair every time. The little styling tips offer a  personal touch, giving you a step-by-step guide as if Percy & Reed were personally at your disposal. It is also not particularly time-consuming and do-able daily! The kit is priced at £24 and includes all of the above.

It looks like Percy & Reed are my new hair Gods! Have you tried any Percy & Reed products?

Scream if you want to go faster at St Giles’ Fair, Oxford

St Giles Fair Oxford

St. Giles’ Fair has been an Oxford tradition and annual affair since the 13th century. Each September, people attend the two-day event in their masses.

Held in Oxford’s city centre, St Giles’ Fair is always on the first Monday and Tuesday of the month. The funfair is particularly popular with local children before they return to school. It’s a place to see familiar faces and catch up with close friends.

The rides are impressive and vary in price but generally between £2.50 and £5. Running till around 11pm each night, the prices increase later in the evening as the crowds gather.

An evening at St. Giles’ Fair is one filled with laughter, candy floss, and dizzy spells.

There’s a little something for everyone and the atmosphere is lovely amidst the blaring music and flashing lights. Finally, do opt for the bigger rides – if you’re brave enough that is!

If you are ever in Oxford at the beginning of September, be sure to visit.

Have you been to St Giles’ Fair before? What’s your favourite fairground ride?

Flowerbomb Viktor & Rolf

Flowerbomb Viktor & Rolf perfume review

Flowerbomb Viktor & Rolf review

Viktor & Rolf”s Flowerbomb of 2005 has got to be one of the nicest floral smelling perfumes on the  market.
It is my all time favourite fragrance. Holding a place upon my dresser in its exquisite multi-faceted, diamond inspired, bottle for over three years now.

So, what do I think of Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf?

Flowerbomb is a sophisticated scent, an mille-fleur explosion, oozing with femininity. Its top notes include fresh green tea and fragrant bergamot.
Like the previously reviewed Alien by Thierry Mugler, the perfume is dominated by the richly feminine sambac jasmine. The heart of Flowerbomb also contains a floral mix of the Dutch centifolia rose, sweet freesia and the tropical cattleya orchid, as sweet as any flower.
The base notes are a contrasting mix of musk, patchouli and sweet powder. The musk aiding the staying power of the fragrance. Flowerbomb is available in eua de parfum and eau de toilette, the concentrated EDP had an incredible staying ability. The cheaper, but equally as exquisite EDT, shares its impressive lingering nature but for the sake of a few pounds its worth opting for the EDP. The patchouli promotes Flowerbombs oriental scent, acting as a background to the floral setting as the powder leaves the skin soft to the touch and smelling glamorous.
Just writing this makes me want to splash out on another bottle and I advise you sample it also!

They’re Real! Mascara Benefit

they are real benefit mascara

A They’re Real! Mascara by Benefit review

They’re Real! Mascara by Benefit is a miracle worker. Benefit is famous for its flawless array of cosmetics. I myself probably own about a 1/4 of this season’s collection!

They’re Real! mascara however, goes way beyond my original expectations. I suffer from ridiculously short lashes, but with the introduction of this little beauty, the worry is no more. Just take a peek at the pictures within this post (hey I know my lashes are a tad clumpy but I am a writer, not a makeup expert!), I find the results rather amazing!

The mascara is jet black, aiding the brush for a dramatic finish as it lengthens and lifts the lashes. The brush itself is designed with a rounded and larger tip, enabling you to also use it vertically on the individual lashes, adding volume as you go.

So, what did I think of the They’re Real! Mascara by Benefit?

The strong and spaced bristles separate the lashes as you sweep up to your desired look.Horizontally, the brush is to be used in a zig-zag motion to aid the final look. I myself find the less traditional vertical method works wonders.

Beware however, that this makeup miracle is not entirely waterproof and definitely not something to wear if you plan on seeing a sad movie with the boyfriend.

On the plus If you buy this today from Benefits official website, your They’re Real! purchase will be accompanied by a free travel sized version for only £20.50! Although pricier than the average mascara you get guaranteed quality every time. Making They’re Real! a must for any makeup enthusiast who desires luscious lashes.

What do you think of the They’re Real Mascara by Benefit? Do you already own it?
