Beauty: Models Own ~ Green Goddess Glitter Pencil Eyeliner

I’m always slightly dubious when a nail varnish company releases a makeup range. Saying this, I love Models Own as a brand. So, when I saw their Green Goddess Glitter Pencil, I kind of had to have it. Anything glittery, I want. It is becoming a serious problem…

These eyeliner pencils offer “instant glitz in seven shades”, dubbed by Models Own as “essential clubbing equipment.” This green glitter pencil is just lovely, a very highly pigmented and evidently, very sparkly eyeliner.

However, like many eyeliner pencils, I did find the application a little tricky at first. Heating the pencil over a candle flame for just a second, it glided on like a dream afterwards (do be wary not to burn yourself, scorched eyelids would just not be pleasant, allow some time to cool).

12070596_1121505481213772_435758893_n

The colour is a very deep, almost forest green, and unlike many other glitter eyeliners, the glitter does actually transition evenly and visually across your eyelid! It really does come out beautifully bold and bright. The smudging end is fabulous also, blending out to create a dramatic coloured smokey eye.

Each eyeliner pencil comes with its own smudger and sharpening end cap. You never realise how handy this is until you go without and you are desperately trying to get ready with the bluntest of eyeliner pencils!

Have you tried the Models Own makeup range? Would you go for this bold colour?

Beauty: Benefit ~ Gimme Brow

Me Benefit Gimme Brow-vertEveryone has something they must do as daily as part of their beauty routine, or they simply do not feel right.

For me, it is my eyebrows. Some may find that strange, but I just feel shoddy without them coloured in.

This is why I have been very excited to try out the Benefit Cosmetics, Gimme Brow* brow-volumising fibre gel.

I have been a ‘Benefit girl’ for many years now, so I had a lot of faith that this would be another one of their wonder products, especially in light of its 2013 Allure best of beauty award.

Being a (somewhat ginger, I blame the Irish in me) brunette I opted for the medium/deep shade, there is also a light/medium alternative.

Gimme Brow-vert

Benefit claims an, “innovative brush-on fiber gel that adheres to skin & hairs, creating brows where before there were none. It builds easily for thick, lush arches, thanks to a tapered brush for blending & precision tip for shaping.”

I have to say, I was very impressed with Gimme Brow. I usually swear by my Beautiful Brows Kit and I was concerned about it running out, but Gimme Brow is totally on the same level.

If anything, it is nicer to have it in a gel format as opposed to powder when it comes to application.

Gimme Brow is super easy to use, you can layer the shade on subtly, or add pressure to your strokes to take full advantage of the shade (as I do, dark and intimidating eyebrows seem to be a thing with me).

I applied as recommended, in short pressing motions, combing across the length of my brow and using the tip of the brush to define shape.

For a more natural look, it is advised you “start at the inner edge of your brow and move outward. Repeat to add more volume.”

What I like about Gimme Brow, is that it lasts throughout the day and as promised, was water resistant, natural-looking and buildable. The latter quality being the most appealing, as it is suitable for all intended looks.

Currently Benefit are hosting their Bold is Beautiful campaign, raising money via their brow waxes for women’s charities Look Good Feel Better and Refuge.

100 per cent of the money raised will go to charity and you’ll also receive a full-sized Gimme Brow of your own! If that isn’t an incentive, I don’t know what is!

The campaign only has a day remaining so be sure to get your eyebrows waxed to perfection and donate to an amazing cause!

What do you think of the new Benefit Gimme Brow? What item of makeup can you not leave the house without?

Nail Care: Barry M Aquarium Collection Nail Varnish ~ Arabian

Barry M Aqaurium Arabian Nail Varnish

After being gifted this Barry M nail varnish by my beautiful friend Paulina I have been wearing it relentlessly for the last fortnight. I am not even kidding, I have truly fallen in love.

This nail varnish is Arabian, a duo-chrome colour of gold and green. It is so vivid and striking and honestly reminds me of mermaids (particularly Disney’s Ariel who would totally rock this colour if animation sprung to life).

The varnish is part of Barry M’s Aquarium collection which hosts four other duo-chrome varnishes and two glitter top coats.

The duo-chromes are all named after seas, the pink/gold is Mediterranean, the peach/gold is Caspian and blue/gold is Pacific.

Arabian goes on very well and you may even get away with the one coat if you are careful and dainty (unfortunately, I am not). I always finish with a top coat and pray for a miracle that I will not chip my nails. You could always opt for the Aquarium glitter top coats (Mermaid and Treasure Chest) if you want a bit more sparkle.

I am now a serious fan of duo-chromes and hope to adopt the other three Aquarium varnishes. In respect of their name they are beautifully aquatic and I can never resist a vivid green manicure (perhaps I am odd).

What do you think of Arabian? What is your favourite colour nail varnish?

Beauty: MAC Lady Danger lipstick

Mac Lady Danger lipstick review

This beautiful MAC lipstick was gifted to me for Valentine’s day by my adorable friend Paulina. In Poland, it is customary to share gifts with all your loved ones (not just your significant other) so she lovingly selected a Mac shade for all the ladies in her life and Lady Danger was mine.

The Lady Danger lipstick, was cleverly chosen by Paulina for me for its name and shade (I am not entirely sure if I cause, or if I am always in said danger mind). The Lady Danger lipstick is described as a ‘vivid and bright coral-red’ and has a matte finish. It is very bold and very pigmented with warm and bright undertones of red and orange. I find the red dominates but the subtle orange hint makes it a unique shade in my collection (Ruby Woo is my go to shade for the classic red lip) of red lipsticks.

MAC-Lady-Danger3-crop

So, what do I think of the MAC Lady Danger lipstick?

Like I find with all MAC lipsticks, Lady Danger has a lovely creamy texture, stands out (makes for a vibrant daytime look) and is long-lasting, having worn it myself throughout the day or night (around six hours depending, when it does wear it leaves a flattering coral stain behind). As Lady Danger is a matte formula, you have to be sure to keep your lips buffed and moisturised with balm before application as dry flakes can show easily with this shade, and this is never a good look.

Lady Danger offers a rich coverage, warm colour and intense shade. As I have quite large lips I can find application a tad awkward but I feel investing in a lip liner may solve these issues (if anyone could recommend me one, that would be fabulous). I find Lady Danger the perfect alternative to the classic red lipstick and it applies wonderfully on all skin tones, including my pale one!

Do you like Lady Danger? Which is your favourite MAC shade of lipstick?

Beauty: Hello Kitty Graffiti Lipsticks ~ Urban Punk, Baby Doll and Hittin the Block

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

When shopping around TK Maxx for makeup and clothes the other day I could not resist this cute trio of Hello Kitty lipsticks (there were more shades available in store but I could not justify the entire collection) alongside my now beloved Measurable Difference Face & Body Bronzer.

My Hello Kitty obsession has led to me purchasing an abundance of themed stationary, plush toys and crockery, so when I found Hello Kitty cosmetics I was very pleased with myself indeed.

10996724_841334769245935_2660358158605236454_n-horz

Considering the relatively low cost (from fifty pence to two pounds on sale), I found the lipsticks to be of a rather good quality and I selected a pink, brown and peach shade to take home with me.

The pink shade Baby Doll gives a lovely subtle shimmer, nice on its own or over a more bold lipstick. The brown shade Hittin The Block proves itself to be extremely bold, not really my colour as I am rather fair skinned but lovely on friends with a less pink skin tone (boo). Unfortunately, I found that the peach shade Urban Punk washed me out and proved to match my pale skin tone and hide my natural lip colour entirely!

10923670_841334792579266_282793377109414694_o-horz

Some may find it tacky but I find the graffiti print packaging very cute (an infantile word but very appropriate). However, as these lipsticks are cheaper than other high street brand cosmetics the casing is a bit flimsy.

The iconic and adorable Hello Kitty faces atop the lipsticks really make them stand out from my other lipsticks upon my makeup organiser, a serious cute overload amidst the Mac, Soap & Glory and Rimmel.

Have you ever tried any Hello Kitty cosmetics? Which shade would you choose from the trio?

Beauty: Measurable Difference Face and Body Bronzer

Measurable Differences Bronzer on Stephanie Mulholland review - The LDN Gal

Measurable Difference Face and Body Bronzer Review

After dancing the night away I awoke and felt pretty shoddy (no hangover thankfully, just pain from wearing my ridiculous high heels and dancing to hip hop for over four hours). After an hours note taking for one of my up-and-coming university essays, I decided to lift my spirits and venture into town to do some shopping. This either means buying makeup, clothes or stationary and sometimes it can be all three, oops.

Thankfully for my bank balance, I went with just makeup and clothes (I got an adorable black embellished playsuit but it is too big on me so must sadly be returned tomorrow) this time. Yet again I purchased all of these items from my beloved TK Maxx, I am in there so often now for beauty products it is verging on ridiculous.

Along with the playsuit, I bought three Hello Kitty lipsticks (I have a scary obsession with the brand, most find it strange) and the Measurable Difference Face & Body Bronzer, which I just adore.

Measurable Differences Bronzer review - The LDN Gal

So, how do I feel about the Measurable Difference Face and Body Bronzer?

The ‘bronzer’ is actually not bronzed at all! It is a lovely delicate shade of pink and multi-purpose so “can be worn on the face, legs, and body”. As my Mac Pink Swoon powder blush is on its last legs, I felt this could be the perfect (and less costly) alternative.

I applied the bronzer with my Nanshy blush and bronze brush as advised and found it to subtly added colour, giving me a perfect summer-kidded glow. To create a more defined look, Measurable Difference advises you continue to build upon the colour until you are satisfied.

As I am quite pale I rely on my bronzers and blushers to brighten my complexion and this pigmented bronzer highlighted my face wonderfully, it also leaves your skin with a bit of a shimmer which is always nice, especially on those dull and dreary days.

Look out for it in TK Maxx stores or buy it online here.

What is your favourite bronzer or blusher? Have you used Measurable Difference makeup before?

Beauty: Rimmel ~ Scandaleyes and Apocolips Big Bang

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

Rimmel Scandaleyes and Apocolips BIG Bang review

It has been a while since I treated myself to some new makeup (I say treated myself, the reality is that my mother pities me and my student poverty so bought me this trio) and after my flatmate Natalie got an amazing new Rimmel eye liner (which I kept borrowing) I just had to get one of my own.

Luckily, Boots were doing a 3 for the price of 2 offer (Is it just me or are the Boots Christmas time offers brilliant? So many points and discount combinations!) and I managed to nab the Scandaleyes Waterproof Gel Eye Liner in Black, Scandaleyes Mascara in Extreme Black and Apocolips in Big Bang.

I really like Rimmel as a more affordable and quality brand, especially for their eye products.

wpid-img_20141204_132749-1024x1024-vert

So, what did I think of Rimmel Scandaleyes and Apocolips?

The Scandaleyes Mascara thickens and lifts lashes, the Extreme Black edition is very darkly pigmented, which I love. However, it may look a tad striking on those with lighter lashes. The MaxDensity™ brush is tapered in shape so lifts and volumises lashes. With this in mind, I tend to go over it afterwards with a straight brush to ensure no sign of clumping (I find clumps can happen with even the most expensive of mascaras). The formula includes collagen and keratin which plumps the lashes. I actually prefer this mascara to my Benefit They’re Real!, which seemed to dry out very quickly.

I would say the Scandaleyes gel eyeliner is for more experienced users as it comes as a pot and brush set.  The brush supplied is firm and the liner dark. The shape of the brush enables you to create thick and thin lines depending on your preference. It is also waterproof and I find it stays on throughout the day and doesn’t tend to smudge.

I have wanted an Apocolips Lip Lacquer for quite some time now and I adore their lovely matte texture. The shade I chose is Apocolips Big Bang and not only is it a lasting but it is a ridiculously bold red. It is just perfect for the festive season, nights out or for a more daring daytime look. However, be sure to keep your lips moisturised as I find mine often feel chapped in winter and cracked and dry lips never look good combined with a beautiful lipstick!

What is your favourite Rimmel product? What new makeup do you want this Christmas?

Beauty: The Body Shop ~ Beauty With Heart

The Body Shop Beauty With Heart-tile

We believe true beauty comes from the heart. For us, beauty is much more than a pretty face. It’s about feeling good and doing good, too.

Beauty With Heart is the latest celebration of the work from The Body Shop. It details their products and how they care and support those around them.

Against Animal Testing

In 1996, 4 million people had signed for The Body Shop Against Animal Testing Campaign to the European Commission. By 1998, testing of cosmetic products on animals have been banned in the United Kingdom.

By 2013, 1 million signatures had been gained for the Cruelty-Free International Pledge. This calls on governments and regulators to ban animal testing worldwide.

Support Community Fair Trade

The Body Shop continue to support 25 suppliers with their community fair trade commitment and ethos and have done since 1987. They actively seek out small-scale farmers with expertise in the field, offering them good trading practices and prices for their produce. Labeling themselves as ‘the pioneers of fair trade in beauty’.

Around £200,000 of their sales from Christmas gifts have gone on to build five schools in India, Nepal, Ghana and Honduras.

Activate Self Esteem

The Body Shop have had numerous successful ventures when it comes to raising the self esteem of people nationwide. Their work as headline sponsor with Teenage Cancer Trust in collaboration with the Royal Albert Hall Concert Series has raised over £500,000 for the charity.

They also raised £18,273 in store over three days in May 2013 with store members celebrating teen spirit by dressing up as teenagers! These are just a few of their many fun ventures to raise awareness and money for good causes.

Defend Human Rights

The Body Shop Foundation has raised £319,851 towards 39 human rights groups. These include groups such as The Big Issue Foundation which began by seed funding from the foundation in 1991, the Stop Violence in the Home global campaign of 2003 to assist and support those affected by domestic violence and the Yes Yes Yes! To Safe Sex campaign in partnership with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation which raised over two million pounds to educate people about safe sex and support those affected by HIV and aids.

Their biggest campaign to date is the Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People in which 24 countries pledged and in which 7,044,278 voices were heard. These are only a selection of the campaigns started or participated by The Body Shop and they continue to work with many charities and organisations.

Protect the Planet

The Body Shop fund a variety of environmental and animal protection groups. Their efforts have raised £120,051 for 24 environmental and £142,987 for 29 animal protection groups with their Sumatra Jungle Trek raising £40,000 for the Orangutan Foundation.

This year alone, volunteers have given 3,470 hours of their time to support The Body Shop and its causes.

It appears that beauty is so much more than just a pretty face!
